Next Level 250 Series Lesson #2

Thank you for attending Lesson 2 of our 8 week Training Series! Please note that lessons do not have to be taken in numerical order. You are welcome to start anytime during the 2 month rotation.
Here are your notes and homework from class. Keep practicing to solidify all you learned.

Serve Mechanic

  • Soft loose grip and arm

  • Contact point out in front low by your knee

  • Weight transfers forward into non paddle leg in front

  • Front shoulder and hip are positioned towards your target- follow through pointing at your target


Serve Rules

Volley Serve: Ball is dropped and hit out of the air before bouncing

  • contact below the belly button

  • low to high motion

  • paddle tip below the wrist

  • Cannot manipulate the ball with non paddle hand

Drop Serve: ball is dropped and allowed to bounce on the ground and then is hit

  • Ball must be dropped, not tossed or thrown

  • All other rules do NOT apply if using drop serve


Partner to Partner Serves Drill

  • Players set up crosscourt from their partner

  • Players take turns serving to their partner who catches ball and then serves it back

  • Focus is on consistency, form and hitting the service box


Return Collector Drill

  • 1 min round on the right and left side of the court

  • 1 player serves and 1 player returns back to the server

  • Players count how many returns they get in bounds in the 1 min round

  • Compete with your partner to see who can get the most in each 1 min round
