Next Level 300 Series Lesson #1

Thank you for attending Lesson 1 of our 12 week Training Series! Please note that lessons do not have to be taken in numerical order. You are welcome to start anytime during the 2 month rotation.

Punch Volley Mechanic

  • Good ready position with paddle out in front and elbow in front of torso

  • Soft Hand, Soft Stable Wrist, Soft Body = Don’t lock your weight down – Feel the Flow

  • Contact point out in front about 12″ in front of your toes

  • No big backswing – just turn and punch

  • Balls coming straight at your body are a backhand volley

 

Volleys In & Out Drill

  • Part #1 – focus is on fast hands: start with both players standing 1 foot inside the kitchen (NVZ).  Hit controlled cooperative volleys back and forth

  • Part #2 – focus is on timing and contact point: Players step behind the kitchen (NVZ) line and continue controlled cooperative volleys.

 

High Volley Mechanic

  • Short to no Backswing

  • Prep -PAUSE and wait for ball to get to you – Slap down on ball

  • CONTACT POINT is key

    • Too early = in the net

    • Too late (big backswing) = sailing long

  • On forehands reach up with non paddle hand to promote shoulder rotation

  • This shot uses your weight transfer and body rotation to create power safely

 

Toss & Attack Drill

  • Players Toss the ball  to partner who  attacks with focus on timing with contact point 

  • Feeders stand close to basket at T of NVZ to allow room to hit down the line

  • Balls ideally fed shoulder height

  • 1 min forehand feed

  • 1 min backhand feed
