Inside/Outside Dinking Drill
-
Players stand cross court from one another at the NVZ
-
1 Player dinks to inside foot then to outside foot alternating
-
Other Player works on foot work and unit turn and just hits back to their partner- reset to inside foot when pulled out wide
Lift Dink vs Push Dink
Lift Dink– the defensive dink, keeps you safe and in play
-
Has a little lift to it – will see that in the swing plane – not too high of trajectory bc you don’t want it attackable
-
It is not a deep dink- more shallow
-
Use this when you are in trouble and need to stay in the point- like if you are pulled out really wide or off balance
-
Slow your swing down and just lift dink it back into play
Push Dink– the offensive dink, used to pressure your opponent and move them around
-
Push forward through the ball
-
Deep Diving Dink aimed for foot depth
-
Use this when you are balanced, in position and looking to create imbalance and opportunities from your opponent
2 Ball Lift Dink Drill
-
Players stand straight on at NVZ across from one another
-
Each player has a ball
-
Players count down and then bounce and hit a lift dink to each other simultaneously to each other.
-
Keep the balls under control, shallow and good net clearance
Lift & Push Alternator Drill
-
Players play straight on to each other
-
Player 1 is simply hitting the dink to their partner like a feed- consistent and unattackable
-
Player 2 is alternating between a lift dink and a push dink
-
2 min round then switch roles
