Looking forward to seeing you next week!
Serve & Return
-
Depth and Accuracy are the biggest keys for both Serve and Return
-
Returns
-
Short Backswing
-
Turn Sideways
-
Weight transfer forward
-
Chip/Push it back – not a full blown swing
-
Serve & Return with Accuracy
-
Partners set up cross court from each other at baseline
-
Set up target cones for returner to aim at
-
Serving partner alternates serving to forehand and backhand deep
-
Returner focuses on deep returns at targets
-
Do on both Even and Odd sides then switch who is serving and who is returning
Transition Zone Choices
Depends on your Contact Point Height whether you attack or reset
-
High- Make them Cry!
-
-
-
You may attack balls that you are able to contact hip height or higher
-
Be aware if they get too high and you are in transition that you should often let them go out
-
-
-
Low – Go Slow!
-
-
Balls that you are contacting low below the net – should be dropped or reset.
-
Keep it under control and allow your team to advance to the net.
-
Transition Zone Neutralizer Drill
-
Set up 3 cones: Spread evenly from baseline to NVZ
-
First feed is aggressive like a step back on the 4th shot
-
1 Point for neutralizing required number of shots into the NVZ, 1 Point for winning the point – Rally Scoring (approaching player could get 1 point for neutralizing shots and feeding player could get 1 point for winning the rally)
-
Version #1- Easier
-
Player 1 feeds from NVZ – aggressive feeds
-
Player 2 starts at middle cone in transition zone
-
Player 2 must neutralize 1 shot into the NVZ before being able to approach to play out the point at the net.
-
-
Version #2 – Harder
-
Player 1 feeds from NVZ – aggressive feeds
-
Player 2 starts at back cone and has to neutralize a shot from each cone before moving all the way up to finish playing out the point.
