Punch Volley Mechanic

Good ready position with paddle out in front and elbow in front of torso

Soft Hand, Soft Stable Wrist, Soft Body = Don’t lock your weight down – Feel the Flow

Contact point out in front about 12″ in front of your toes

No big backswing – just turn and punch

Balls coming straight at your body are a backhand volley
Bowtie Volleys Drill

Players stand straight on for this drill
-
This is cooperative- alternating forehand and backhand volleys trying to maintain the rally and control

If rally get chaotic- stop the ball and start again

Round #1 Player 1 hits all volleys down the line and Player 2 hits all volleys cross court

Round #2 Player 2 hits all volleys down the line and Player 1 hits all volleys cross court
Volleys In and Out Drill

Part #1: Start with players standing inside NVZ.

Players hit controlled volleys back and forth to each other focusing on contact out in front, ball control, and balance control.

Part #2: Players step behind NVZ and continue the same drill.

You are looking for a reaction from your opponent when you attack
Where Should I attack?

Open Court – this can be in between opponents, behind them or in front of them

In front of them is often forgotten about

At the person straight across from you

Attacking cross court sets your partner up for failure

Pick a fight you are going to finish and attack straight on

The opponent that is least balance and in position

Capitalize on weakness on the opposite side of the net

When Should I attack?

If you can contact HIGH – make them cry! If you are contacting low – go slow!
